Upcoming NY Heroes Society Event
Date: Sunday, September 16th at 11AM
Walking Tour of NYC Sculptures by Dianne Durante
Dianne Durante, author of the just-published Outdoor Monuments of Manhattan: A Historical Guide, will be giving us a walking tour of selected monuments from her book. Dr. Durante will discuss 4 sculptures in and around Washington Square: the Washington Arch, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Alexander Lyman Holley, and Phillip Henry Sheridan. We'll learn to look at these works as art and also consider what the men they represent can tell us that applies to our own lives and times. The tour incorporates out-takes from Dr. Durante's book. Volunteers will have the opportunity to read aloud excerpts from the 19th-c. New York Times, Ayn Rand, General Phillip Sheridan, George Washington, and others. Meet at the south side of the Arch.
